Founder Story

Hola,

I'm Monique Diaz Evancic—founder, maker, and proud great-granddaughter of a Cuban seamstress who showed me that sewing isn’t just craft… it’s power.

In the 1950’s, my abuela ran a successful sewing business as a widowed mother of three. She sewed every garment by hand on a black Singer machine, making beautiful clothes for women who wanted to feel strong, stylish, and seen. Growing up, I sat beside her every summer as she stitched on her antique Singer sewing machine—learning the art of sewing and the value of independence.

Today, I carry that legacy forward with Pocket Change: a woman-owned, LatinX, mission-driven business that believes women deserve better from their clothing. Real pockets. Real function. No compromises.

Like so many women, I still get that little thrill when I find a dress that actually has pockets. But it shouldn't be a rare discovery—it should be the norm. So I started Pocket Change to offer something simple yet powerful: the freedom to carry what you need, right where you need it, in the clothes you already love.

Each pocket we sew is handmade with care and purpose—because fixing clothes is one thing. But fixing what’s been missing from them all along? That’s the pocket revolution.

Women have sacrificed convenience in their clothes long enough. We see you.
